YB3S Members at the First TwinBat Summer School on New-Generation Battery Technologies

Young Battery 3S members participated in the First TwinBat Summer School, “New Generation Battery Technologies: From Materials Design to Cell Characterization,” held at Gebze Technical University. The four-day programme brought together students, researchers, academics, and other members of the battery research community for an intensive programme of lectures, workshops, poster sessions, scientific discussions, and practical activities.

YB3S members Burcu Kalyoncuoğlu, Nazlıcan Ön, Muhammed Fatih Hamidullah, Hasibe Nur Peksöz, Emre Çetin, and Eymen Almaazabi took part in the programme, following the technical sessions and contributing to the scientific and networking activities throughout the summer school.

Four Days of Advanced Battery Education

The summer school offered a comprehensive programme covering fundamental concepts and advanced approaches in battery science. The sessions addressed a wide range of topics, including battery technologies, sodium-ion battery materials, cathodes and electrolytes, Raman characterisation, solid-state batteries, crystallography and X-ray diffraction, lithium–sulfur batteries, operando methods, advanced imaging techniques, and electrochemical characterisation.

The programme also focused on measurement errors, experimental best practices, and battery data analysis. These sessions provided participants with an opportunity to examine battery research from different perspectives, connecting materials design with cell characterisation, electrochemical testing, and data interpretation.

Beyond the technical lectures, the programme included workshops and practical discussions that encouraged participants to engage directly with the scientific topics and exchange ideas with researchers and other participants.

Poster Sessions and Scientific Exchange

The poster sessions provided an interactive environment for participants to present ongoing research, discuss scientific approaches, and exchange ideas with researchers and students working in different areas of energy storage.

The sessions covered a broad range of subjects related to battery materials, electrochemical energy storage, recycling, electrolytes, degradation mechanisms, digital approaches, and other emerging technologies. These discussions created valuable opportunities to discover new research directions, receive feedback, and establish new academic connections.

Young Battery 3S members Burcu Kalyoncuoğlu, Nazlıcan Ön, and Muhammed Fatih Hamidullah contributed to the poster sessions by presenting their research. Their participation provided an opportunity to communicate their work to a wider scientific audience while engaging in discussions with other researchers and students.

Second-Place Poster Award for Nazlıcan Ön

One of the highlights of the summer school for the Young Battery 3S community was the achievement of Nazlıcan Ön, who received the second-place award in the poster competition held as part of the programme.

The recognition represented an important achievement for Nazlıcan and the YB3S community, highlighting the active scientific contribution of young researchers to the summer school. The poster competition also demonstrated the value of providing young researchers with opportunities to present their work, exchange ideas, and receive recognition in an international scientific environment.

A Valuable Experience for the YB3S Community

The First TwinBat Summer School offered YB3S members a valuable combination of technical education, scientific communication, practical learning, and networking. The four-day programme provided an opportunity to strengthen their understanding of new-generation battery technologies while interacting with researchers, lecturers, and fellow participants.

The combination of technical sessions and poster discussions was particularly valuable in encouraging scientific exchange and exposing participants to different approaches within the battery research field. For YB3S members, the summer school was an opportunity not only to learn from established researchers but also to share their own work and become more actively involved in the wider battery research community.

Participation in programmes such as the TwinBat Summer School reflects the broader mission of Young Battery 3S: supporting continuous learning, encouraging young researchers to communicate their scientific work, and strengthening connections between young researchers, academia, and the wider battery ecosystem.
